In Sri Lanka, the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi, who used the “magic potion” claimed to be developed by the Hindu wizard against the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19), arguing that it is effective and recommends it to the public, has been reported to have caught Kovid-19.
In the statement made by the Ministry of Health, it was stated that Minister Wanniarachchi’s Kovid-19 test was positive and he was treated in the hospital.
Last month in the city of Kegalle, near Colombo, the capital city of the country, a Hindu wizard claimed that he had developed an elixir that “provides lifelong protection against Kovid-19”.
It was stated that the sorcerer claimed that the Hindu goddess Kaali appeared to him in a dream one night and suggested “a potion with a mixture of honey and coconut to save humanity from Kovid-19”.
After Minister Wanniarachchi announced that she had tried the potion in question and benefited the virus, thousands of people flocked to Kegalle to get the mixture.
The opposition parties accused the Minister of Health of misleading the public, stating that there was no scientific data that the mixture protected from Kovid-19.
Minister Wanniarachchi is also criticized for continuing the practice of compulsory burning in the crematorium on the bodies of those who died from Kovid-19, regardless of religion.
Sri Lankan Muslims, who oppose the practice of compulsory cremation and claim that this practice is discriminatory against Muslims, demand that the bodies of Muslims who died from Kovid-19 be buried.
The Medical Association Committee of 11 people, appointed by the Ministry of Health and consisting of 3 microbiologists, 6 virologists, an immune system specialist and a vaccine specialist, in its report published on January 2, “The expert delegation reviewed the recommendations for the removal of the corpses of those who died from the epidemic, It has decided that, besides cremation, burial into the ground can be applied, provided that health measures are observed. ” he explained.
Despite the delegation’s report, Health Minister Wanniarachchi announced at the parliamentary session on January 7 that they would continue the practice of cremation “on the grounds of health safety”.
